CIPA 36400 Wedge Auto Dimming Rearview Mirror with Compass and Temperature Description
CIPA's Auto Dimming Rearview Mirror with Compass and Temperature provides the perfect solution to annoying headlight glare at night. Sensors indicate when bright lights are used and dim the mirror glass for comfort and safety. The Auto Dimming Rearview Mirror also offers a disable button for when dimming is unwanted. Additional features include a digital compass and temperature readout. The compass features a bright LED display, and is self-calibrating. The temperature feature displays outside ambient temperature, and can be programmed to display in Fahrenheit or Celsius. First time installations will require routing a power and sensor wire. Vehicles with an existing auto dimming mirror and a 7 pin connector can plug directly in with no fuss. Otherwise, the wires can be tapped using the wire tap provided. Mirror is 10 inches long by 2.5 inches tall, and is a wedge base mounting mirror. This kit includes a mirror, 6.5 ft power wire harness, wire tap, 9 wire ties, temperature sensor, 14 ft temperature sensor wire harness, operation card, wedge button, and an installation guide. Mirror mounting epoxy is not included. Hint: a camlock mount mirror is commonly found on imported vehicles and is removed by turning the mirror 90 degrees, so it is perpendicular to the dash, then pulling down on the mirror. A wedge mount mirror is commonly found on domestic vehicles and is removed by loosening a small screw or clip and pushing the mirror up toward the roof. Made in the USA and FMVSS approved under section 571.111 of Standard No. 111. Note: We do not recommend installing these mirrors if your vehicle has airbag sensors in the headliner, if your vehicle is equipped with OnStar, or if your vehicle is a hybrid model. i purchased the 36400 mirror for my 2009 kia sorento which is not a cam lock or wedge mount i did not need the map lights although at the time i purchased the one with the map ligts was only $2 more the button attached to my windsheld was a little hard to get off but a little heat softened the glue. the mirror took a few hours to install but was well worth the effort. love it works great wish this company would sell just the compass and temp unit to attach to a mirror with backup camera.

I installed this in my Honda Fit which has no outside temperature gauge. Temperature and compass are accurate and easy to read. In the engine compartment there is a cover over the temp sensor wires, a sort of flexible plastic conduit that is nice. There is no hard plastic cover over the wire between the mirror and headliner, but the conduit covered cables don't look really bad. The mirror dims/undims extremely quickly. It comes with a nice quick disconnect for the power connection at an included inline connector that attaches with pliers.
I think this should have included a hard cover over the cable between the mirror and headliner. Otherwise, it is perfect.

I have missed having an Auto Dimming mirror on my MX-5.
After doing research, I found this product. Not only is it auto dimming, but it has the built in compass (nice to have but not necessary) and the temperature readout. (Something I also missed from my RX-8)
I didn't install it myself, as I was unsure of running the wires to the front of my car. I'm really happy with how it works, and how it looks.
If you are thinking of getting one, it's great! I have map lights in my car already, so save some money on the 36500 or the 36501. It works like a charm as far as the auto dim goes.
You won't be disappointed. (Well, i hope you won't!)
